Precious David-Ogaga of NTA Yenagoa has been selected for the prestigious Digital Public Infrastructure and Digital Public Goods Fellowship by the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA). Precious David-Ogaga joins a cohort of 44 other journalists from across West Africa for this fellowship’s second phase.*
The MFWA, in collaboration with Co-Develop, is running this six-month fellowship to advance public awareness, engagement, and adoption of Digital Public Infrastructure, or DPI, and Digital Public Goods, known as DPGs, across the region. The fellowship is designed to equip selected journalists with both hands-on training and reporting skills on these critical digital topics.
According to MFWA, Precious David-Ogaga was chosen through a competitive process that saw 291 applicants from Nigeria, Ghana, Benin, and Togo. In total, 45 fellows were selected, representing a diverse group of reporters with 28 men and 17 women.
The fellowship kicks off with three months of intensive training, running from November 6, 2024, to January 31, 2025, followed by a second phase of reporting and publishing, which extends through April 2025.
This fellowship aims to create a network of journalists leading the charge on DPI and DPG awareness. Precious David-Ogaga and the other fellows will participate in a blend of virtual and in-person training, along with international DPI events, producing quality stories around these themes.
The MFWA launched the first phase of this fellowship in 2023, engaging journalists from ten West African nations. This year’s fellows are set to build on that foundation, contributing to a greater understanding of digital infrastructure issues across West Africa.
